How we met The Lions Club of Mandurah Inc. and why our relationship with the Lions is so valuable to our cause.
Common agenda, to build a connection with the wider community, share stories, and help those who need extra support to make life just that little bit easier.”

I wanted to share our story with you all of how we crossed paths with the Lions.
Our moment was when I randomly met Gordon Nunn in the Bendigo bank at Halls Heads. Gordon was out in the community representing the Lions Club that day and it just happened to be the same day I was also out doing charity work at the bank and my Mum was also with me on volunteer errands for the Lakelands Community Garden.
My mum and I “Always helping where we can” spotted an opportunity. Mum and I noticed Gordon with his Lions badge on and we were given an opportunity to say “hi” and introduce ourselves. After a few minutes of chatting in the middle of the shopping centre, we decided to grab a coffee with Gordon.
We had some great conversations around community involvement discussing the different needs within our local area, Mum and I knew we had made a great connection at this point. Before I knew it, Gordon had invited me to join the Lions Club for their monthly dinner meeting, and not long after I was having coffee with Lions members John Osborne and Peter Lamb discussing our vision for the XYY Association and what a special interests Club Branch could mean to our group.
On arrival at the “Lion’s Den” for the first time, I was welcomed by many Lions representatives and instantly felt the warmth. I knew immediately, who the Lions were and what they stood for!
You all have a big heart to make a difference within the community and this is what, we as the XYY Syndrome Association of Australia Inc. stand for too!
I walked away with the feeling I was being heard and that the Lions understood there was a true need for our cause.
From that moment I have had this feeling carry on throughout our ongoing working relationship. The Lions Club of Mandurah Inc. has shown incredible support to our team and our cause.
November 2021 – Lions Club Christmas Cakes What a wonderful month we had connecting with the community, nothing like some yummy Lions cake to bring us together! The Lions Club of Mandurah Inc. supplied us with Lions cakes to sell and a raffle to help raise funds to support awareness for XYY Syndrome.
In 2022 we became a club branch of the Mandurah Lions.
The opportunities and support that come with being a Lions Club Branch are invaluable and we are so very grateful to the Lions Club of Mandurah Inc. and especially to Peter Lamb for his guidance and support on our journey.
What is a “Club Branch”
How has being a Club Branch helped our cause?
The Lions Club of Mandurah Inc. has the commitment & drive to make a difference within the community and that, we as XYY Syndrome Association of Australia Inc. stand for too! Right from the start we have felt that we have been heard and that the Lions understood there is a true need for our cause and from that moment we have had this feeling carry on throughout our ongoing working relationship.
They have the generations of skills, knowledge, heart, and understanding that we need help to grow our association while supporting males diagnosed with XYY within our community. We have a long journey ahead and every helping hand is truly appreciated.
TOGETHER we are making a difference for the future of XYY Syndrome.

51st Annual Changeover Dinner for the Lions Club of Mandurah Inc.
On the 12th of July 2022, we had the honour of being invited to attend the 51st Annual Changeover dinner for the Lions Club of Mandurah Inc. We took this opportunity to thank the Lions Club of Mandurah Inc. for their invaluable support and commitment to our cause. Jack, one of our XYY boys (15 years) proudly presented the President, Barry Simms with a certificate of appreciation.
It was a wonderful opportunity for the Lions members to meet first-hand a young boy with XYY Syndrome and in turn for Jack to understand what clubs and opportunities the world has to offer.
